In 2003, CSA established a 501(c)(3) program called Carlyle Youth Sailing School (CYSS). This enabled tax-deductible donations to CYSS by individuals for the benefit and advancement of junior sailors.
What is a 501(c)(3) organization?
501(c)(3) organizations are commonly referred to as
charitable organizations. Their primary purpose is to serve the public interest
by engaging in activities such as religious, educational, scientific, or
charitable work; in our case the advancement of junior sailing.
What does 501(c)(3) status mean for an
organization such as CYSS?
Section 501(c)(3) is the portion of the US Internal Revenue
Code that allows for federal tax exemption of nonprofit organizations that meet
the code's requirements. These nonprofits may be considered public charities,
private foundations, or private operating foundations.
How will this help CYSS?
CYSS will use the donation funds to increase junior sailing
participation and excellence and purchase of sailing equipment. CYSS puts
donations to work in the form of repairs and equipment upgrades.
How will the donation help you?
The main advantage for the donor is that donations to the CYSS
are tax-deductible. This is a tremendous
help to the CYSS when raising funds. CYSS
donors have many choices when deciding where to give, and can give more to the CYSS
because they can receive a corresponding deduction in accordance with the
corresponding IRS rules.
We greatly appreciate cash donations and boat donations or specific items we have on our wish list – please, contact Mark Hood – Junior Sailing Director at CSAJuniorSailing@csa-sailing.org or call (618) 620-0002
