Carlyle Sailing Association

What is CSA?

Founded in 1971, Carlyle Sailing Association is a not-for-profit sailing organization located just an hour east of Saint Louis, Missouri, on Carlyle Lake in Southern Illinois. With some of the finest sailing facilities in Midwest, we are a friendly, family-oriented, volunteer association dedicated to the sport of sailing. CSA has a number of active one-design fleets, as well as boats for rent. We have events year-round, including weekly races, regattas, parties, and sailing lessons.

Our harbor is situated on Carlyle Lake: a 26,000 acre, man-made lake; approximately 8 miles long and 3 miles wide. It is the largest lake in Illinois and enjoys a well-deserved reputation as one of the best sailing lakes in the Midwest and the Saint Louis area.

We are a friendly, family-oriented, volunteer association dedicated to the sport of sailing. Whether you're into competitive racing or just chilling out, CSA offers something for everyone!

Come celebrate the 2019 season of Carlyle Sailing Association!  This event is a look back on the sailing season and a chance for the Commodore to thank her staff, recognize our many volunteers, and present awards earned by our members.  There will be a small gift for each person attending, fine food served, a slideshow of sailing photos from 2019, and drawings for door prizes.   We'll also pass the flags to our newly elected officers for 2020.

It is an event not to miss, as it is for all of our members, family and friends. Please join us as we reflect on the sailing season and enjoy a great dinner.

    Testimonials:

“Dave is very entertaining as well as a great teacher. Many sailors came with their non-sailing spouses and their spouses all said how surprised they were to have enjoyed it so much and even understand a bit more about what was going on out there on the race course!”

    - Fleet Captain, Portland Yacht Club

“Dave is an annual speaker at our Club. He never fails to make us all laugh while teaching us so much about the sport regardless of our skill or experience level or whether we skipper or crew. After Dave’s talks, everyone is so excited to go racing and to hear him speak again the following year!”

Dave will present his popular Tactics in Crowds! This is an in-depth and humorous look at tactical positioning at key areas around the race course (start, windward mark and leeward mark), with an analysis of the applicable rules and decision-making process in each.

Dave includes spectacular video of many of the tactical situations he discusses. This is an enjoyable presentation for all levels of racers high school aged and up, and for non-racer supporters.

Come listen to Simon DuBois, an accountant from Montreal, share his story as a circumnavigation in the 2017-2018 Clipper Round the World Race.

The Clipper Race is one of the biggest challenges of the natural world and an endurance test like no other.

Divided into eight legs and between 13 and 16 individual races, you can choose to complete the full circumnavigation or select individual legs.

It is the only race in the world where the organizers supply a fleet of eleven identical racing yachts, each with a fully qualified skipper and first mate to safely guide the crew.

Normally the domain of seasoned pros, this supreme challenge is taken on by ordinary, everyday people. Having completed a rigorous training course, participants are suited and booted in the latest extreme protection gear to commence the race of their lives - an unparalleled challenge where taxi drivers rub shoulders with chief executives, vicars mix with housewives, students work alongside bankers, and engineers team up with rugby players.
